Indian Languages
All Indian languages are spoken in India. The six official languages of India are Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu and Marathi. The seventh language of India is Sanskrit. India has a population of over 1.2 billion people, of which 936 million are Hindi speakers, 781 million are Urdu speakers, 734 million are Bengali speakers, 644 million are Tamil speakers, 585 million are Telugu speakers and 520 million are Marathi speakers.Hindi Language
There are around 1.3 billion people who speak Hindi as their first language. It is the official language of India and one of the 22 official languages of the United Nations. Hindi is spoken in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. It is also spoken in the national capital of New Delhi and in the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Goa. Hindi is the lingua franca of India. Urdu Language
Indian speaking Urdu language is a language belonging to the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European language family. It is the official language of the Republic of India and one of the 22 official languages of the United Nations. Urdu language is also the national language of Pakistan. It is also the second most spoken language in terms of number of speakers in South Asia after Hindi.
Urdu is an Indo-Aryan language and is closely related to Hindi. Urdu and Hindi share a great deal of vocabulary, and Urdu is sometimes referred to as a Hindi-Urdu hybrid language. Urdu is also the official language of Pakistan
Bengali Language
Bengali, also known as Bangla, is a major Indo-Aryan language spoken in the eastern region of the Indian subcontinent, including Bangladesh and the Indian state of West Bengal. With over 120 million speakers, Bengali is the seventh most spoken language in the world. With its strong connection to the culture of the region, Bengali is also one of the most spoken languages in the world in terms of cultural influence.

Tamil Language
Tamil is the primary language spoken by the Tamil people in India and Sri Lanka. Tamil is one of the few languages in the world that is spoken by more than 25 million people. Tamil is also the official language of Sri Lanka (Srilankans).
Telugu Language
Telugu is the language spoken by around 94% of the population of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is also the official language of the Andhra Pradesh state. It is a Vedda language, and shares many similarities with Tamil. Telugu language is written in the Telugu script.
Marathi Language
Indian speaking Marathi language is spoken by people in Maharashtra state in western India. It is a daughter language of Marathi. Marathi is the official language of Maharashtra. Marathi is also the official language of the state of Goa. There are about 65 million Marathi speakers in the world.
Indian speaking Marathi has its own script called Marathi script. Marathi is written from left to right. There are about 53 letters in the Marathi script. Marathi has its own vowel sounds and consonants. Marathi speakers use the script to write Marathi language.

Sanskrit Language
Sanskrit is an ancient Indian language that is spoken by around 80 million people today. It is the language of Hinduism, one of the world's major religions. Sanskrit is also the language of the Vedas, one of the oldest and most important texts in Hinduism.
Sanskrit is a complex language with a rich history. It is thought to have originated in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent around 1500 BC. It gradually spread southward and became the language of the Hindu elite. Sanskrit was also used as the language of government, scholarship and religion in ancient India.
Today, Sanskrit is still used in religious ceremonies.
Assamese Language
In Assamese, the language spoken in the eastern Indian state of Assam, there are around eighty thousand words. Grammatically, the language is agglutinative, meaning that words are joined together to create new words. Assamese is a tonal language, meaning that the pronunciation of words can vary depending on the tone that is used. The language is written in the Brahmi script.
Kannada Language
Indian languages are considered to be the oldest languages of the world. Kannada is also one of the languages spoken in India. Kannada is spoken by about 60 million people. Kannada is a Dravidian language. It is written in the Kannada script. Kannada is classified as a Southern language. Kannada has many dialects. The Central Kannada dialect is the most spoken dialect.
Malayalam Language
The origin of Malayalam language is not known with certainty. It is generally believed that the language evolved from a mix of Sanskrit, Prakrit and other languages spoken in the region.
Malayalam is classified as a Southern Dravidian language. It is also considered as one of the 22 scheduled languages of India.
Dialects and varieties of Malayalam are spoken throughout the state of Kerala. The dialects can be classified into three major groups: Northern Kerala, Central Kerala, and Southern Kerala. Northern Kerala dialects are more closely related to the Malayalam spoken in the state of Tamil Nadu, while Central and Southern Kerala dialects are more related to Malayalam spoken in the state of Kerala. There are also several dialects spoken in the state of Karnataka, which are often considered variants of Malayalam.
Punjabi Language
Punjabi is the main language spoken in the Indian state of Punjab. It is also spoken in the neighbouring states of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Punjabi is an Indo-Aryan language and is the language of the Sikh community. It is also spoken by the Gurmukh community. Punjabi language is written in the Gurmukhi script.
