Cashew:

Cashew tree introduced by the Portuguese in 16th century in parts of India Specially Goa.

Cashews are called Kaju in Portuguese and ANACARDO in Spanish.

Cashews grows differently as compared to other nuts. Instead of growing from inside the fruit , hang from bottom of fruit which called and Cashew Apple.

In Goa cashew apple is used to make an alcoholic beverage which is called as "FENNI".

Unlike other nuts cashews can not be sold with their shells . This is Because the shell layer contains caustic resin that needs to be removed to make them edible to eat. Caustic Resin substance is related to toxic urushiol oil also found in poison ivy.

Unshelled cashews are therefore roasted, high pressure steamed and cracked to remove the shell oil, called cashew nutshell liquid (CSNL)

The benefits of cashews and their copper nutrient may be helpful for the formation of red blood cells(RBC) as well as for the absorption and synthesis of iron.

Only one nut survived Whitehouse had chosen a nut from the orchard belonging to the Agah family in Iran.

Whitehouse then named the tree "Kerman" after a city in Iran. Today, the US produces more than 900 million pounds of pistachios annually.
